I've always liked the story of the Ninevites praying to God and receiving compassion after hearing of their intended destruction. And admired our sister church in El Salvador watching them pray with passion. I hope to capture some of that here where we can share prayer requests. Shiends comes from when my kids were young and just starting to talk. They both had sleeping friends but couldn't say friends and kept saying "shiends". So "shiends" has been in our vocabulary ever since.
My friend Shelley's dad had brain surgery recently due to a cancerous tumor. She said such cases usually have up to 2 years to live. She sent me the below update. Please pray for healing, and for the family to have the ability to cope and rest and have quality time together. Pam
ReplyDeleteI'm at my mom and dads right now. My dad is in a hospital bed in the living room. He needs pretty much complete care. He is hallucinating quite a bit. He keeps telling me to untie his shoe laces and he is not wearing any shoes and he talks to people who are not there.
I come to my parents house every evening at 8:00pm and stay with dad so my mom can sleep for 3 hours without the baby monitor on.
My prayer is for us as a family to have quality time.
My friend Libby's husband is a church architect and is feeling the crunch of the economy. He is basically laid off due to the lack of work coming in, but is trying to find new projects.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Gary, how's your job situation? Any more info on if your grant/contract will be renewed?

ReplyDeleteHey Pam, I was gone all weekend at a church retreat. When you hear stories of what you wrote above in other people's lives as we shared each other's stories this weekend it is easy to remember how we really need to rely on God's strength. I will pray for His strength for Shelley, her mom and her dad. I also pray for God's comfort and shalom to be on her family. I will get to my situation later today after work. I am praying for you.
