I've always liked the story of the Ninevites praying to God and receiving compassion after hearing of their intended destruction. And admired our sister church in El Salvador watching them pray with passion. I hope to capture some of that here where we can share prayer requests. Shiends comes from when my kids were young and just starting to talk. They both had sleeping friends but couldn't say friends and kept saying "shiends". So "shiends" has been in our vocabulary ever since.
Sophia Anastasia came out unwillingly July 6 @ 5:25pm 10lbs 21.5in long.
ReplyDeleteMy water broke in a more obvious fashion at 1am Tuesday, so instead of going to the doctor for another amniotic fluid & nonstress test, we went to the hospital. I had painful contractions & back labor, but didn't dilate & she didn't come down.
I was very tired from not having slept previous 3 or so nights due to contractions that would begin around 11pm and end around 4am and didn’t know if I would have the energy and strength to push out the "big baby" they predicted if it took too long. After consultation with my doctor we decided to do a c-section that evening when she would be at the hospital. It’s not what I had wanted, but I think it was the right choice. This c-section was a very different experience. They honored the requests on my birth plan, like having both my doula & Alex in the operating room, not having my arms tied down, so I could touch Sophie right after she was born, and to have her with me in the recovery room so that I could attempt breastfeeding during the most crucial time for infant bonding. I think the nurse who was on duty played a big role in this. She was really supportive.
I had some concerns about whether I may have torn my stitches when I had increased bleeding & pain after I picked Ivan up during one of his tantrums (I’m only supposed to lift 10lbs), but when I saw the doctor she said I was fine, but to be careful. She reminded me I just had major surgery and am going to be recovering for a while yet. It’s easy to forget that when there are two little ones both striving for attention. When I get a nap, things seem pretty good, but when I don’t it can be really hard. Right now Alex is working half days, so it gives me a little chance to rest. It will be a challenge when he goes back to full time, but hopefully my body will be in better shape by then.
Thanks for the update, Pam, and praise God you are all doing well. Heidi also had a C section, not ideal but it became necessary during the time she was pushing. It was a weird situation as they came in, told me to stay, made her sign things in a drugged stupor and wheeled her off. Thankfully everything went well but it was not what we hoped for. And thankfully everything went well for you and Sophie. I will keep praying for you all.
